Small charity, big impact

Enabling sustainable futures in Kenya and Sri Lanka

Since 2006, The Free Town Trust has been changing lives in Kenya and more recently also in Sri Lanka. As a small UK-based charity we work to provide direct support to children, families, and communities in need. From funding education and vocational training to supplying emergency aid, every penny we receive goes directly to those who need it most.

The power of education

The impact of a small donation shouldn't be underestimated. We work with families, schools and local organisations to directly support children and families. A good education unlocks a wealth of opportunity.

Bettie

Getting a consistent education in Kenya isn't easy. It's expensive, and as a single parent raising three children Teresa was finding it hard to manage. The Free Town Trust decided to pay for their school fees and all three graduated. Bettie then secured herself a scholarship to college and eventually university in Oregon where she studied medicine and graduated in 2023.

Samasha

Samasha's father sadly passed away in 2023 and her mother was unable to support her education without enough income. Just £30 per month is supporting Samasha with her school fees and transport where she is currently completing her A-levels. With a strong education she will have considerably more opportunities available to her to support her family.

The Karanis

On a visit to Kenya we met the beautiful Karani family, James and Rachel with their three children, Daniel, Ian and Andrew. Their home town was actually the inspiration behind our charity name. Again, providing a consistent education is difficult but with support from The Free Town Trust all three children managed to graduate from high school. An incredibly generous donation to the charity also enabled us to support the family further through the purchase of land that enabled them to build a family home.

About

About the charity

The Free Town Trust was established with a simple yet powerful vision: to create sustainable opportunities for children and families living in poverty in Kenya and Sri Lanka.

We believe that through targeted support in education, health, and basic needs, we can empower individuals to build better futures for themselves and their communities.

Our commitment is to ensure that every donation, no matter how small, directly reaches those in need and makes a tangible difference in their lives.

How you can help

Every penny donated goes directly to the families and children that we support. There are a number of ways you can support our work.

One-off donation

You can make a donation here. Your money will go directly towards supporting our current projects.

Join a fundraiser

We regularly run events and fundraisers throughout the year. Our annual gin raffle is not to be missed!

Setup a direct debit

A regular donation helps to continue our support. £30 per month funds a single child through school, but any amount is a huge help.
